OK, I will try to say this with out sounding like a bigot ........ All over the news is this thing to make it ok for those of you who are illegally here in Toronto, (apparently there are 400,000) to go to shelters or food banks.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE???
Does the news tell everyone that if you are born and raised here and receive Child Tax you cannot get help from the Salvation Army here in Scarborough? Do they ever show pictures of Canadian born children hungry???
Ontario is sliding so far down hill with its politics and catering to others that we are now a national joke. We will spend millions on gay pride, wastefully spend money studying why cement falls off the Gardiner Expressway - (which, as my 9 year old pointed out, is caused by gravity, that is what makes things fall, so there the mystery is solved). The money spent studying the poor could be better spent feeding the poor - AND I DO NOT MEAN THE POOR WHO ENTERED AND LIVE HERE ILLEGALLY. I MEAN THE POOR WHO'S FAMILIES WERE BORN HERE!
Most of the East Coast of this beautiful country live below the poverty line, as does many families here in Toronto.
Let's have a debate in council about how even to consider passing more freebies to the illegals will definitely help the surviving poor who were born here.
I have to stop watching the news - it ruins my day.

CCTB is NOT an income. It is Canada Child Tax Benifit. It was set up similar to our recently introduced Trillium Benifit. It is to REPLACE our lump sum tax refund. Recipient at a Charity MUST receive this to qualify. There are only 3 reasons why you do not get CCTB. a) you don't have a child b) you didn't file last years taxes c) you made too much income to qualify. You might want to reconnect with the Scarborough chapter and enlighten them on their "discrimination". East York chapter DOES NOT count CCTB as income.
ReplyDeleteThe Scarborough chapter often tells people that they cannot receive help because they receive CCTB and Social Assistance. I have had many convey this to me - especially at Christmas time. I do not mean to sound too negative. Fortunately for me I have received help many times without any distress.
ReplyDeleteThe main point I am making in my rant is that here we are spending more money discussing helping illegals when there are many, many legal souls here who need help. Combining Social Assistance, CCTB and the Trillium benefits still leave the average family with very little income. Statistically they live 50% below the Federal Poverty line - when will this ever change?
Social Services gives a yearly increase of 1 to 2 percent, meanwhile rents go up either an equal or higher amount - leaving the poor with no extra cost of living increase. Many people who are on assistance are not there by choice and do not have a way of bettering their positions. When everyday is filled with worry concerning food, clothing, etc., it is hard to exist.
I, personally, believe, and quite strongly, that it is time we started REALLY helping the low income families that are here legally.
The key word to this whole conversation is : "ILLEGAL" - which my dictionary describes as "law-breaking", we should not make it easier for them to live here illegally. Just saying.....
AGREED ! I receive ODSP and volunteer at The Foodbank. I hear ya LOUD and clear. When I work part time they claw back 50% of the gross income...That's double taxation and creates a LOSS for me to go to work. I receive child support and they clawback 100% of that. My son WAS a dependant on my case and we had been assured for 2yrs that apprentiships count as full time training positions. Until he was placed. THEN I'm told his training must include 60% of class time. (WHAT apprentice does 60% class time ?) So not only was he removed but when I charge him $300 rent that I need because they removed his benifits I get charged $100 boarder fee"
ReplyDeleteTRUST ME, there have been many a time I want to say... "It's because I'm white, right ?!? " The fact remains the same, if the Salvation Army denies access to familys recieving CCTB THAT itself is an illegal process.
We may never be able to Deport ALL of Canada's illegal immigrants. Trudeau saw to that, but we should certainly be able to moderate the illegal charities.
P.S... I stopped watching the news 5 yrs ago. Plenty of current events info on the web, where I can read and stop reading at my own discretion and mood... lol :)
Amen to that Marion. The system is designed to keep the poor, poor and the rich, richer!
