Premier Ford, once again you have chosen to protect the criminals and punish those who oppose you.
Speed cameras work!
Every ticket issued is because the vehicle has exceeded the posted speed limit, including the “threshold” allocated before the issuance of said ticket.
Simply put, the operator of the vehicle has BROKEN THE LAW!
You claim it is merely the municipalities committing a “cash grab”.
I disagree.
IT IS A FINE, A PUNISHMENT FOR EXCEEDING THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT.
NOT TO MENTION THAT TWENTY-FOUR PERCENT OF THE GENERATED REVENUE GOES TO THE PROVINCE AND THE REMAINING SEVENTY-SIX PERCENT GOES TO THE OPERATION OF THE TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT SYSTEMS!
You neglect to mention that in the past three years vehicles assigned to the Ford government have been caught 23 times by automated speed cameras and 12 times by the vehicle’s internal system.
Incidents that have resulted in over $3,300 in fines for YOUR government.
One of your vehicles had registered at the stunt driving speed of 162 km/h!!!
Another one of YOUR government vehicles registered 70 km/h in a 40 km/h zone.
There have also been numerous “stunt driving” notifications triggered by the vehicle’s internal monitoring systems in non-camera locations.
Your office response to the driver caught stunt driving was “it will never happen again”. (The same driver is still employed by your government).
You are willing to endanger every single person in Ontario rather than punish those who put all of us in danger.
Signage will not stop speeders!
If it would then the big sign posting the speed limit would slow these drivers down.
Letting drivers know what the allotted “speed camera thresholds” are will merely allow these reckless drivers to maintain a speed “over the limit” but “under the threshold”.
They will still be speeding!
Which I am sure you know is breaking the law.
I realize that you rarely walk anywhere and are not familiar with the danger being a pedestrian in Ontario often poses.
I live near Coxwell Avenue in Toronto. From my balcony I can see one of those signs that shows drivers what their vehicle’s speed is.
The posted speed in this neighbourhood is 40 km/h. The average speed of vehicles passing the sign is 50 plus km/h.
Premier Ford, speeding is speeding.
SIMPLE AS THAT!
Every ticket issued is because the operator of the vehicle is breaking the law!
Fining them is the only way to drive the point home!
Personally I think that the fines should be far higher and the threshold should be 5 km/h over the limit.
Your reasoning will allow these careless drivers to speed on every street in the province.
As a comparison, your reasoning would be the same as saying one punch in the mouth is not an assault.
You can put as many and as large signage wherever you wish. Like I previously said, if signage worked then these reckless drivers would be doing the posted speed limit.
Do you disagree?
IT WILL NOT STOP THESE RECKLESS DRIVERS WHO KNOW THEY WILL NOT BE PUNISHED!
KEEP THE CAMERAS!
IF YOU CARED ABOUT THE CITIZENS OF ONTARIO YOU WOULD DEMAND THAT THEY ARE INSTALLED IN ALL ONTARIO CITIES!
SPEEDERS ARE LAWBREAKERS – STOP REWARDING AND ENCOURAGING THEM!!!
