Do you "See" when you look in the mirror?
Who do you see when you look in to your mirror?
Do you see “You” when you look in your mirror?
Do we see the same “you” that others see?
These three simple questions are quite capable of driving the sanest of minds insane.
Even a person who normally exhibits logical judgement during chaotic periods will doubt their projected perception upon others if they dwell too long attempting to answer any or all of the trio.
Starting with question one,
“Who do you see when you look in to your mirror?”
Do you see yourself in present time?
In my case I do not.
Definitely not!
When I look at my reflection I see a stranger.
I see a younger looking older man.
A man with sagging body appendages, dark circled eyes, drooping jowls and a street seasoned face.
In my mind I see the “me” at 23 or perhaps even 41.
No jowls, smaller nose, eighteen inch biceps and a nice arse.
Which is much the same as what question two asks, “Do you see yourself when you look in your mirror?”
Like I said, “No, I do not see me.”
My subconscious mind will not allow me to accept the fact that the reflection I see is actually me.
He’s nothing like how I want me to see me.
First off, he is old.
Secondly, he looks tired, very tired.
Thirdly, I do not want to look like that.
Which falls into question three,
Do we see the same “you” that others see?
Or are you in denial such as me?
Post script:
Now here is a reflection of me that makes me go “He, he, he”.
This is me in the fall of 1969.
Shortly before I walked away from my Father’s house, joined a hippie commune and learned how to smoke heroin and do LSD.
