"Locks Are Only For Honest People.”

Let me ask you a serious question.

“Do you feel safe?

I am not referring to the security of your home.

I am referring to how “safe” you feel.

How secure you feel is another matter.

When it comes to home security, safe and secure are two definitive different things.

I remember in my rebellious teens a police officer telling a neighbour whose home had been broken into that, and I quote,

“Locks are only for honest people.”

It was fifty years ago I heard him say that, yet, I still remember it well.

“Why?”

Because of it’s raw realism.

A strong portrait of the society of man.

And sadly, a simple truth.

Our enormous amounts of police and law related movies and tv series take away from our safety by giving us false confidence in our security.

Such scenarios like:

“In a house, full of ground floor windows, that burglars are attempting to break into, all you have to do is run and lock all your windows and doors, call 911 and the calvary will arrive and catch “Bob the Burglar”.

We all know that only happens in the movies.

In reality, by the time the police would arrive, your home would have been invaded, you may have been beat or even murdered and the thieves would be long gone, have gotten their prize.

Still, I must say it’s best to keep your locks engaged all the time and not let your guard down.

“STAY SAFE!”

Staying safe is physical.

Now ask yourself, “Is my home “safe” or is it “secure”? Perhaps it is both.

Having a “safe” home is a feeling that is directly affected by the physical security.

By engaging your home’s security and locking all locks you send a message to your subconscience that you are now secure.

Now, ask yourself, “Am I “safe” or am I “secure”? Is it possible to be both?

In the physical sense you are definitely secure.

In the psychological context you are only as safe as the security you trust.

If you have doubts about your security then your safety is at risk.

And the opposite is also true. If you doubt your safety then your security is at risk.

How do we become both safe and secure?

“Confidence”

Fifty percent is to have confidence in the protection provided by the locks installed in your home and by your home security system.

This assures your mind that you are now in your safety zone.

You can now feel confident that all is well and you are safe and secure in the inner sanctuary of your home.

But, are you?

After all,

“Locks are only for honest people.”
